Fall is in the air, children are back to school, and I’m craving pumpkin chocolate chip cookies like nobody’s business.  The changing seasons always stir up an excitement for good things ahead. In the spirit of new beginnings, let’s get pumped about scripture study again. There’s nothing better than that rush of energy that comes with the inspiration to begin anew.  Here are some powerful quotes on scripture study that can put life in perspective, remind us of the power of God’s word, and help us to remember the promises that are ours for the taking.

The Key to Spiritual Protection // From Boyd K. Packer:

“Parents today wonder if there is a safe place to raise children. There is a safe place. It is in a gospel-centered home…Children taught an understanding of the scriptures early in life will come to know the path they should walk and will be more inclined to remain on that path…We live in perilous times; nevertheless, we can find hope and peace for ourselves and for our families…The scriptures hold the keys to spiritual protection.”

Finding Solutions // From Richard G. Scott:

“Throughout the ages, Father in Heaven has inspired select men and women to find, through the guidance of the Holy Ghost, solutions to life’s most perplexing problems. He has inspired those authorized servants to record those solutions as a type of handbook for those of His children who have faith in His plan of happiness and in His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. We have ready access to this guidance through the treasure we call the standard works—that is, the Old and New Testaments, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.”

Intrinsic Power // From Richard G. Scott:

“I suggest that you memorize scriptures that touch your heart and fill your soul with understanding. When scriptures are used as the Lord has caused them to be recorded, they have intrinsic power that is not communicated when paraphrased. Sometimes when there is a significant need in my life, I review mentally scriptures that have given me strength. There is great solace, direction, and power that flow from the scriptures, especially the words of the Lord.”

No Other Way // From Bruce R. McConkie:

“I think that people who study the scriptures get a dimension to their life that nobody else gets and that can’t be gained in any way except by studying the scriptures. There’s an increase in faith and a desire to do what’s right and a feeling of inspiration and understanding that comes to people who study the gospel—meaning particularly the Standard Works—and who ponder the principles, that can’t come in any other way.”

Promises // From Marion G. Romney:

“I feel certain that if, in our homes, parents will read from the Book of Mormon prayerfully and regularly, both by themselves and with their children, the spirit of that great book will come to permeate our homes and all who dwell therein. The spirit of reverence will increase; mutual respect and consideration for each other will grow. The spirit of contention will depart. … Faith, hope, and charity—the pure love of Christ—will abound in our homes and lives, bringing in their wake peace, joy, and happiness.”

When It Seems No Divine Ear is Listening // From Spencer W. Kimball:

“I find that when I get casual in my relationships with divinity and when it seems that no divine ear is listening and no divine voice is speaking, that I am far, far away. If I immerse myself in the scriptures the distance narrows and the spirituality returns.”

We Wrestle Not Against Flesh and Blood // From Ephesians 6:11-13:

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day.”
